What it is all about.

One of the joys of being a part of a ministry team is sharing hospital visits.   I had my first “on duty” day a few weeks ago.  I will be real with you all; sometimes hospital visits are not that much fun.  You knock on the door and you never quite know what will be one the other side.

This day I drove to the hospital and as I arrived I always remind myself that I (ME, KIM MEYERS) am not the reason for this visit.  My purpose for each hospital visit is to BE a part of the greater church.  My purpose is to BECOME the hands and feet of Jesus.  I said my prayer and knocked on the door.   The door was opened to find the cutest couple on the other side. The husband had had knee surgery and was getting ready to go home.   They have been married for over 60 years.  Their daughter was in the room also with a smile and always had an eye on her Mom (who was not the one in the hospital).  We talk a little about this, a little about that, and then he told me how much he enjoyed reading the children’s newsletter.  I was a more than surprised that he read it so I assumed that he had grandchildren in the program.  I was mistaken.  He read it to stay connected.  So that he can be a part of the greater church family.

I love that THIS was the first hospital visit that I went on.  It was a moment that reminded me that we are a part of such a greater family.  I love moments like this.  I was going into a situation planning on ministering to someone, when in fact, they ministered to me.  This couple reminded me that our church family is so grand, and it is incomplete if we are not all connected.

This has been such a powerful Holy week connecting with a new church family.  The Mandy Thursday service always leaves me humble and strong.  I will be visiting the Stations of the Cross tonight with my family before we attend the Good Friday Service.

As we are at the end of Holy Week, stay connected to the story of Jesus.  Connect with the good, the bad, and the ugly of this story. When you focus on it ALL it makes the joy so much greater!!
